Basilisk #1 Review
Today I will be reviewing Basilisk #1 from Boom! Studios. This book was written by Cullen Bunn, illustrated by Jonas Scharf, colored by Alex Guimaraes, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire. Let's review it!
Boy oh boy, Cullen Bunn has done a fantastic job with this book! Issue #1 came out June 2021 and I am just now reading it on August 2021....so I am just a tad bit late to the party but boy am I glad I picked this and issue #2 up at my comic shop! I had heard people talk about it but I wasn't sure if it was my cup of tea per say and after reading issue #1, I would like a full gallon of the tea please! The artwork in this book is fantastic and Jonas Scharf really details things that are goin on in each panel. We start the book off by seeing that we are reading chapter one titled "Down From the Mountains" and sure enough we see five people in what looks like jumpsuits walking down into a town, just wandering. What seems to me as a truck driver stops the group to ask them questions and unfortunately gets killed in a very brutal way. Honestly I am very ok with the brutality in this book, it makes the book in my opinion. I do enjoy the storyline so far in this book as it tells a story about a group, the group we mentioned, that is very powerful and does bad things. But, like every group there is always someone who wants to better and do good and we see that in Regan. Regan was apart of that group who has murderous eyes and wants to do good. She teams up with Hannah who is out for revenge on that group, especially Regan. Hannah actually kidnaps Regan to interrogate her on why she did what she did two years ago. However, Hannah's little talk goes sideways when a group called The Faithful attacks them. In one panel, Hannah completely obliterates a dude's head with one shot, crazy stuff. We get to finally see those murderous eyes of Regan as she blasts The Faithful with blasts from her eyes and says to them that she has "set them free, free from their false Gods." Regan and Hannah leave to stop the other 4 from the group, but all along they were being watched by crows that went to tell the group of Regan's whereabouts.
Again, I cant say enough about this book. From the brutality to the great story so far, it really is great. I'm happy I picked this book up and can't wait for the rest of the issues to drop! Basilisk #1 gets a 4.5/5!
