Dark Blood #2 Review

Spoiler Free Review!

Before we start, I would like to give a huge shoutout to Boom! Studios for allowing me to read and review "Dark Blood #2" early! This issue drops on August 25th, 2021 so if you've read my review of the first issue (go do that if you haven't) and you were hooked like I was, go get issue #2 when it drops! Latoya Morgan is of course the writer and creator while Walt Barna and Moises Hidalgo split illustration duties. Like I mentioned, I was hooked after issue #1 so when I saw that Boom! Studios sent me issue #2, I was hyped! With that being said, let's jump into it!

This book was a roller-coaster of a ride in my opinion. In issue #1, I was not expecting the racial tone and the overall theme of this book but I was surprised at how well it was paced and how the story drew out. I did say that I wish the issue was longer and I got my wish in issue #2! The length was perfect and the pacing was great. I cant seem to find why I'm so hooked on this short issue book, but truthfully I don't care because these books are great! In issue #2 we really change up the tone really from the beginning but we still need to remember that we're in the 1950's and our main character is African American so there is still that racial tone. I was happy to read that in issue #2 we see more of who Avery is and a little more about him. I believe it when I said that this issue took me on a roller-coaster of emotions from happy and smiling to me saying out loud "ugh, not again!" Because this is a spoiler free review, I wont say what happens in the book but when you read issue #2, make sure to clear your mind and remember the setting of the story. My last thought before my overall grade is that I do wish the story would kind of speed up a bit. At times it did drag out and I was hoping to see something crazy happen. There are only six issues in this run so I hope it does pick up!

Overall, I enjoyed issue #2. I do, however, think with the length it was that the story should've picked up a tad faster than it did. Now, that's not saying the issue isn't good because it was really good, I just think that with how short the run is, I want to see Avery and his powers! "Dark Blood #2" gets a 3.5/5!
