Miles Morales: Marvel Tales (2021) #1
Happy Anniversary, Miles!
Marvel really knows how to celebrate, huh. Miles Morales aka Spider-Man debuted 10 years ago by creators Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli and to celebrate this anniversary, Marvel has given us Miles Morales: Marvel Tales #1. In this book you will get to read the debut of Miles in Ultimate Fallout #4 and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1-5. Written by Michael Bendis, penciled by Sara Pichelli and cover art by a good friend of the podcast Joshua "Sway" Swaby. Let's get into it!
If you are a new comic book reader or even a new comic book fan (Welcome!) then this is a great book to read. Miles Morales has been in a number of things as of late like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales the video game and much more, but his debut was back in 2011 and you get to see that unfold in Ultimate Fallout #4 which is in this book. I really enjoyed reading these books because it gave us back story that even us pro-nerds need to read. Miles is a great character and some may argue that he is the best Spider-Man of them all (key word is some, not all). However, this isn't just a debut for Miles, no we are introduced to his family and friends in these books and that's great because we need this in more comics. Let's meet his family shall we; mother Rio Morales, father Jefferson "Jeff" Davis and uncle Arron Davis aka Prowler. Miles' best friend is Ganke Lee and I'll be the first to say that Ganke is the best of the best and I hope one day we will see him (and Miles) in a live action MCU project. I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand times, I love backstories of characters. Back in 2011 I wasn't the biggest comic nerd or comic reader, but I became one and kids and even adults now are able to be introduced to these characters like Miles and Ganke with these comics, movies and video games. I loved the pacing of each book and how it left me wanting to read more and more and honestly each panel gave me more and more that it was really hard to put he book down. I don't have a lot of bad things to say about this book but I do wish we got more and perhaps we might, I mean Miles is celebrating his 10 year anniversary so anything could happen!
*Quick note: Sway does an INCREDIBLE job at the cover art and I mean that. He is a very talented person and you should totally go follow him on twitter @JSwayArt!
**Another note: Our very own Christian Reyna has his review on the Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game, so go check that out for an inside look at video game Miles!
Overall, this book is totally worth the buy and the read. I'm happy that I finally am able to read his debut even though it is 10 years later...oops. Congratulations to Miles Morales on the anniversary and cheers to many more! Miles Morales: Marvel Tales #1 gets a 5/5!
